From Sun Moon Lake (Yuchi), often called the home of Taiwanese black tea. Hongyu (TTES No. 18) has no relation to the Japanese apple of the same name. It was registered in 1999 after decades of crossing and selection of Myanmar-origin large-leaf and Taiwanese wild large-leaf lines. This tea shows a ruby-amber liquor, smooth sweet body, and unique mint-spice character with floral-honey and citrus tones as it cools. Excellent with baked sweets, chocolate, and cheese.
